AED Idea Exchange: Washington, D.C. | Backlit Glass Columns

LED backlit glass columns at AED Idea Exchange

Architect: Studio 27 Architecture | Lighting Designer: MCLA

At the AED Idea Exchange in Washington, D.C., GPI’s Infuse™ LED Backlighting System was employed for continuous lighting behind frosted glass columns.  Eight columns are cladded with Flat-Lite™ LED panels which provide even illumination of the frosted glass panels.  Because of the translucency of the glass surface, diffuser films were added to hide the lamp image and disguise hot spots. Infuse™ Custom Power Supply with Dimming Capability communicate with the Lutron Grafik Eye® 5000 System for completely automated dimming control.

The result: large panels of highly translucent glass surfaces are evenly illuminated, without hot spots or lamp image.  Dimming control allows balanced brightness between large and small panels.
