AED Idea Center: Washington, D.C. | Backlit Glass Columns

Date: Summer 2010 | Architect: Studio 27 Architecture | Lighting Designer: MCLA
At the AED Idea Center in Washington, D.C., GPI’s Infuse™ LED Backlighting System was employed for continuous lighting behind frosted glass columns. Eight columns are cladded with the flat LED panels which provide even illumination of the frosted glass surface. Because of the translucency of the glass surface, diffuser films were added hide the lamp image and disguise hot spots, and GPI’s Infuse™ Custom Dimming Packs communicate with the Lutron Grafik Eye® 5000 System for complete dimming control.
The result: highly translucent glass surfaces are evenly illuminated, without hot spots or lamp image. Dimming control allows balanced brightness between large and small panels.
