Grand Hyatt: San Francisco, CA | Illuminated 3Form and Wood Escalator Wall Panels

Dark wood panels striated with thin lines of illuminated 3Form Varia Ecoresin clad the newly renovated escalator walls at the Grand Hyatt hotel in San Francisco. The custom-built backlit panels utilize the wall planes to bring light into this long space, and the unique pattern creates a dynamic connection between the main lobby and the lower lobby. Flat-Lite™ LED panels and Infuse™ controls were custom designed to balance the lighting across the trapezoidal shapes, keeping visual uniformity in the perception of the surface.
The result: even LED backlighting in under 3” of space; pre-fabrication and active coordination minimized invasion during renovation process.
